File Prep Guidelines
Clean files save time and money. If your file isn’t perfect, send it anyway — I can help. These tips just make quotes faster and parts cleaner.
Vectors for CNC / Laser (DXF, SVG, AI, PDF)
- True‑to‑size in mm (preferred) or inches — pick one unit
- No duplicate lines or overlapping geometry
- Closed shapes for cutouts and pockets
- Use layers or colors to indicate operations (cut, score/engrave, etch)
- Text converted to outlines/paths
- Include overall dimensions somewhere in the file
3D Models for Printing (STEP, STL, 3MF)
- Watertight solids with correct orientation
- Include key dimensions (L × W × H) in the message
- Add tolerances or fit notes if parts must mate with something
Tolerances
Typical CNC routing results are ±0.2–0.4 mm depending on material, tool, and geometry. Laser kerf averages ~0.15–0.25 mm on acrylic/plywood. 3D prints vary by geometry; press fits may need small test coupons.
Materials
Commonly stocked: birch plywood, MDF, and clear/black/white acrylic. I can work with customer‑supplied material if it’s flat and safe to cut.
How to send
If uploads are large, include a cloud link (Drive/Dropbox/etc.). If you’re unsure about anything, send what you have and I’ll advise the cleanest path to parts.
